Biographie

"A full, epic scale jazz assault with a stringent left field house attitude, stunning to the verge of addiction, drifting along like tranquility given wings. Lovers of music, not scenes, need this" (Rob Wood : editor of 7 Mixmag Update U.K) Not a bad introduction to Norway´s leading light in the jazz world.gracing the cutting edge dance press. Since the early 1990´s Bugge (conveniently pronounced Boogie!) has made an impressive, truly post-modern transistion from ECM nordic jazz traditions, playing and recording together with the likes of Jan Garbarek, to forming his own exquisite label "Jazzland", and creating a unique, fresh blend of "future jazz". Which finds itself equally at home with fans of deep house, techno, ambient, as well as traditional and experimental jazz purists. Following on from the pioneering, globally acclaimed "Sharing" album in 1998, Bugge has spent the past two years touring the world´s melting-pot festivals, where jazz meets club culture in a heady brew, and has seen his "sound" embraced by leading worldwide jazz critics - confidently comparing this new Norwegian star to Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Erik Satie(!), as well as finding an impressive following among some of the world´s most respected DJ glitterati: Gilles Peterson, José Padilla, Mixmaster Morris, and New York´s cult "Body and Soul " collective. Spring 2001 heralds the long-awaited follow up, "Moving", and as the title suggests, it´s a logical progression, six tracks of sublime new millenium jazz, all put together at Bugge´s legendary downtown Oslo studio "Bugge´s room" , with an all star cast of Norway´s most eminent purveyors of fine outer-limits jazz, capturing the very essence of their compellingly eclectic "New conception" performances.of which Bugge´s recent concert series in London was described as " a ride in to the realm of space travel, a trip to ambient and electronic pastures brushed with the acoustic". "Moving" is a perfect document of Bugge´s new world order of jazz, ripping up the standards, and effortlessly taking the listener on a daring musical journey where melody and groove, soundscape and soul all come together.crossing over where others have tried, but failed.one small step for Jazz-kind, but a giant leap in the ever-pulsating galaxy of Bugge Wesseltoft´s "Future Jazz" . Be there, one foot on the dance floor - the other in the stratosphere! "Moving" indeed, prepare to be moved. Bugge has worked with a vast number of international jazz and rock musicians, Dj´s; touring with several different constellations in Scandinavia, Europe and The USA. 1990 - Member of Arild Andersen´s band, participates in his commission to Vossajazz, "Sagn" with recordings for ECM. Participates in Jan Garbarek´s commission to The Molde Jazz Festival,"Molde Canticle", recording for ECM. 1991 - Member of The Terje Rypdal Quintet. 1992 - Member of Jon Eberson´s Jazzpunkensemble. 1993 - Commission to Vossa jazz "A Little War Story". Participates on Sidsel Endresen´s commission to The Molde Jazz Festival, recording for ECM. 1994 - Participates on Arild Andersen´s recording "Arv". Releases "Nightsong" with Sidsel Endresen. 1995 - Forms his own band "New Conception of Jazz", and "Jazzland" label. First CD release awarded a Grammy in `96. 1996 - Tours and records with Billy Cobham. 1998 - Releases "Duplex Ride" with Sidsel Endresen. Participates on Jan Garbarek´s critically acclaimed "Rites" album. Intergrates with Norway´s deep-house/techno/ambient scene with leading club Dj´s and artists (Dj Strangefruit, Abstract, and Illumination & Mental Overdrive) Releases second album with his "New Conception of Jazz", "Sharing". Tours all major Scandinavian Jazz Festivals, culminating in a weekend "Jazzland Session" at Oslo´s "Blå" club, together with Mark Ledford, Eivind Aarset, Richard Thomas as well as Norway´s Dj elite. 1999 - International launch of "Sharing", extensive touring under the "New Conception of Jazz" banner. Remix of "Existence" (Chilluminati) becomes worldwide deep-house/chill anthem, licensed to the best selling Café del Mar.
